created by Stephanie Penniman and her third grade class at Plummer EL

Third grade children expand their writing repertoire to include expository. Modeled after the author's style in the Open Court story, "Kids Did It! in Business" by Judith E. Rinard, the students pretend that they are reporters and write about their imaginary businesses.

Each child designs an original way to make money and writes in the third person to explain how he or she started a business, made money, and spent it wisely. This activity perpares them for the persuasive letter writing assessment at the end of the Money unit and lays a foundation for the fourth grade Dreams to Jobs unit.
